My journey into medicine began after graduating from Purdue University. Upon receiving my degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine-Midwestern University I completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital in Chicago. After having two kids and a third one on the way I was ready to return to Indiana and start my career as a staff physician on the acute rehabilitation unit at St.Vincent’s Hospital on 86th street. I would later become the medical director for that rehab unit. Balancing all of my passions became difficult, and I decided to become a consultant providing rehabilitation services to residents of skilled nursing facilities. As for many, the COVID pandemic turned the usual upside down and forced me to exit the skilled nursing environment. Since that time I have been fortunate to find a healthy and productive work-life balance working remotely as a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician clinical reviewer conducting detailed clinical reviews to evaluate the medical necessity of outpatient rehabilitation services. The system is often confusing and fragmented. There are many questions and answers that are hard to come by. Although excellent care may be provided, we doctors often don’t have or take the time to sit down and really listen to patients’ or their family members’ concerns. Many are left with a feeling of uncertainty, which is magnified by having your life turned upside down due to a significant illness or injury of a loved one. You are stretched thin. There was very little margin in your life previously, between work, kids, and social engagements there was hardly any time for you. Now your loved one has been diagnosed with a significant medical issue, and you are struggling to keep up with all the expectations. You can’t get to the hospital when the doctors come by to see your loved one, and there are so many caregivers it is hard to know who to ask what questions to. The rest of your family is looking to you for information and answers but there is no efficient way to get what you need. I get that. It is where I can provide tremendous value. I will take the time to really listen to you and your concerns. I will provide you with compassionate advice based on years of experience.
